Good-bye Q2, not sorry to see you go; TGIF and Happy July 4th
Closing Bell: The NASDAQ closed UP +85.56 (+3%) to 2,935.05 while the DOW is UP +277.83 (+2.20%) to 12,880.09.
EOD Commentary: RegMed stocks are trading at … better levels … than, in the week on the … final trading day of Q2/12, with all key indexes … sharply higher, as investors cheered a surprise agreement by EU leaders to help the region’s struggling banks. Just 24 hours ago, we were 400 points lower than this. The CBOE Volatility Index dropped 10% to below 18. Breadth was positive, with universe gainers (16) leveraged against losers (8) versus flats (2)
Enjoy the EU-driven rally as long as you can … because once reality sets in there’s likely to be more trouble ahead for financial markets. The market rallied nearly 2% Friday on yet another round of hopes that the latest EU bail-out program would rescue the debt-plagued euro zone. But … just beneath the bold headlines, though, was a spate of … bad news from both the US and around the world that … all is not as well as it looked.
Let’s not get ahead of ourselves … lackluster 1.9% growth in gross domestic product in Q1/12 … is just one problem. Throw in declining confidence, weakening job growth and a slowdown in spending and it’s clear that even if the EU stabilizes there’s plenty … to worry about closer to home.
