RegMed Daily, Closing Bell, 2/9/12, well off the highs, stocks hold small gains, S&P back at 7 month high, sideways market struggles the course

End of Day, Cause and Effect

EOD Commentary: Stocks held small gains in the final hour of trading Thursday, as initial enthusiasm over reports over a Greek debt deal fizzled and investors appeared unmoved following some better-than-expected economic news. Traders are watching to see if the S&P can climb above the 1,356 resistance level, the index’s peak level in early July.  We seem to be overbought in the near-term, but we’re encouraged by the fact that the economic news in the U.S. continues to improve and we’re not as handicapped to what’s going on in Europe as we were in the past,. We’ve been seeing a sideways market instead of a big pullback, so this is markets catching its breath.

Closing Bell: The NASDAQ closed UP +11.37 (+0.39%) to 2,927.23. The Dow closed UP +12.19 (-0.09%) to 12,896.14.
