Update on Clinical Safety Data, Neuralstem, Inc. (NYSE Amex: CUR)
CUR updated the progress of its ongoing Phase I human clinical trial to treat ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, or Lou Gehrig’s disease) at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia.
- After reviewing the safety data from the 1st cohort of 3 patients, the Safety Monitoring Board has approved moving to the next cohort and transplantation of the 4th patient,
- The 1st cohort of patients received 5 injections of the CUR’s spinal cord stem cells on 1 side of the spinal cord,
- The 2nd cohort of three patients will receive 10 injections, 5 on each side of the cord,
- The FDA approved Phase I trial to evaluate the safety of CUR’s spinal cord stem cells in the treatment of ALS has been underway since 1/10.
The trial will ultimately consist of up to 18 ALS patients, who will be examined at regular intervals post-surgery, with final review of the data to come 6 months after the last patient is treated.
